DRESS#30 on THE WORKING PROOF!

I made this artwork in 2009 after reading some lines in a magazine about decorations on haute couture dresses. They are made using the labor of young women living in far eastern countries, whose very small hands are able to make incredibly complicated embroidering. Dress #30 is completely digital and consists of a vector drawing that was then elaborated upon with Photoshop.

PAPER DRESSES on PLATEFORM MAG #18

dresses are not a fashion project but rather a study about body and its cultural containers / I started trying to find a way to present some words and lyrics through (sewing) patterns and graphical frames that could be explicitly linked with femininity and its more fragile items / then dresses became indipendent structures with a strong attitude to void /
now the most difficult challenge is to give to this project a more political dimension, which corresponds better to urgencies of our time

started with the body /
at first it was a traditional body /
by the way it has been a mixed body taken from others pictures of from magazines /
then it became texture, fulfilling everything /
actually came to a point in which it is hard to refer to something strictly human / the dress became more and more relevant, almost substituting the body itself /
there is nothing like an empty ornament or an empty box to evidence what is missing
